Transmission Filters
Unlike engines, transmissions are closed systems. Ideally, what this means is that there are no contaminants introduced to the transmission system. Therefore, the filters should never get dirty and never need changing. In fact, on some vehicles, changing the transmission filter is not part of the routine suggested maintenance schedule. However, if transmission filters never needed changing, then why are they needed in a car’s transmission at all?
While transmissions are closed systems, transmission fluid does break down in use and when they are initially filled with transmission fluid, there is a possibility of particle contamination.
