The control arm, or A-arm, is a critical part of your car’s suspension system. It links the chassis and the suspension hub that carries the wheel. The control arm is attached by a single pivot, usually a bushing. Control arms are not responsible for controlling the position of the entire chassis and its connection to the suspension system, but instead control the radial distance from the inboard mount. Wishbones are similar to control arms, but instead of being a single link they are triangular, which allows them to control the radial distance and back and forth movement without the use of a radius rod. Some suspensions will have both control arms and radius rod designs and wishbones, with the arm and rod combination on the upper link of the suspension.
